Caring for different patients in different special situations seems to be overwhelming and difficult for the nurses. Every day in the hospital, nurses often have to deal with the stress because of the heavy workload when doing the multiple tasks of patient care. Understanding the process of patient care is very important for the nurses to avoid burden in their work. It may not help the nurses to reduce the stressful tasks, but it will help them to prepare the best to face any situations which can happen anytime and make mistakes as less as possible.
To make patients and their relatives comfortable both physically and mentally during the period of treatment, the team of nurses and doctors should have a patient care process in the best way. Here are the main stages of patient care process for doctors, nurses….
Firstly, the hospital director must arrange adequate human resource and equipment which are necessary for the care of patients.
Doctors and nurses have to be dedicated and thoughtful in treating and caring for patients.
For nurses, they must follow closely and record fully and accurately the patients’ condition into the tracking book. Promptly report to the doctor when unusual signs appear.
Besides, the process of care for patients is classified into three different levels:
Level 1: For patients with severe, critical diseases, coma, lying motionless and exceptionally appointed, nurses must constantly monitor and care for the sick; fully record the index, survival, progress in the patient’s condition into the tracking form under the guidance of doctors.
Food, personal hygiene of the patient (body hygiene, urination, clothes changing…), changing the blankets … all need the nurses to complete. Simultaneously, nurses should also comfort and encourage patients’ relatives not to be demoralized, feel secured and continue to treat patients. The process of patient care at this level requires the nurse to pay attention continuously and regularly.
Level 2: The patients include people who are not critically ill, limited activities, specified transfusion, infusion and being monitored circulatory, respiratory functions… People should have an attitude of active cooperation with the nurses in the treatment process. In addition to monitoring the condition and the progress of the patients and taking note, the nurses must also help patients in matters of personal hygiene, walking, encouraging and supporting the patient to cooperate together for their quick recovery. At this level 2, the process of patient care is much simpler.
Level 3: The patients who just get a little sick, can walk by themselves are still monitored and documented by the nurses but basically, the main caring task is taken by the patients themselves. Therefore, at the process of patient care of this level 3, the nurses only take responsible for guiding patients to self-care and do exercises. They should encourage, motivate the patients to try their best to do exercise and cooperate in their treatment.
It is the process of patient care for the nurses at different levels that you can reference.
